The Conference is to promote the Application of Science and Technology for Economic Development through technology transfer, international cooperation, and effective industrial and science/technology policy development. The specific objectives of the Conference are to:

• Share knowledge and information on recent trends and developments in science and technology, entrepreneurship, and networking
  
• Promote collaborative opportunities among academia, industry and government, on utilizing modern science and technology, and cultivating business ventures.
  
• Provide career enhancement opportunities for young scientists and engineers;
  
  

KSEA was established 31 years ago. KSEA serves and represents all Korean-Americans in the USA engaged in science, engineering, and related fields. It is the primary organization in the USA serving Korean industries and government on matters of mutual interests of the USA and Korea related to science and technology. Its success is attested by the fact that it still remains as the only association of its kind in the USA with over 5,000 members. The majority of the members have advanced degrees, and numerous members hold leadership positions in their professions.

The annual technical conference of KSEA, called "US-Korea Conference on Science, Technology, and Entrepreneurship (UKC)", is the most important and visible activity of KSEA. The UKC in recent years has been co-organized by KSEA and KOFST, and supported by KUSCO. Many Korean industrial companies sponsored the UKCs by generously contributing funds. Annually, 400-500 scientists and engineers from the USA and Korea attended the UKC. Although the scope and format of the UKCs were somewhat different from year to year, their main objective always has been the same: to promote US-Korea cooperation in science and technology.

The next UKC, called "UKC-2003", will be held in Pasadena, California, USA, during August 8-10, 2003. UKC-2003 will provide a forum for scientists and engineers from the USA and Korea to:

• Exchange information on the state of the art in science and technology,
  
• Discuss and plan cooperative endeavors in education, research and development, entrepreneurship, and policy,
• Promote mutual understanding of the people, society, culture, and policy of other country,
• Foster professional and career development.
