  U.S. Korea
Symposium
Co-Chairs
Dr. Han-Kwon Choi (KEDO)
Dr. Sangsoo Ryu (FMC Technologies Inc.)
Dr. Yong Nak Lee (HTRD)
Mr. Young Jin Chang (KEPCO)
Additional Co-chairs will be announced soon.
* Symposium Co-chairs may also serve as the Co-chairs of each session

Scope and Objectives:
The symposium will be consisted of two major groups; 1) Nuclear Energy, and 2). Conventional Energy and Other Energy Resources, in which both technical and policy papers are called for addressing the various prospects of regional and global energy demands in the next several decades.

The objectives of the Symposium are; to share the current status of the technology development; to promote possible cooperation between Korea and the USA; and to provide insights to the policy makers of the two countries, and other countries, in establishing future energy policies for the welfare of mankind.

Topics:
The symposium will particularly focus on scientific and project engineering development of next generation technologies, the perspective of relevant markets in order to cope with energy demand growth, assurance of security of energy supply, environmental concerns and protective measures. The Symposium will also try to address evolution of the energy sector as well as general policy issues. Areas of particular interest include, but not limited to:
  • Nuclear:
    - Mid and Long-term Nuclear Energy Policy and Concerns
    - Current Status of Nuclear Power Projects and Radioactive Waste Management
    - Development of Next Generation Reactors Technology and Other Advanced Technology

  • Conventional Energy I:
    - Fossil Power Generation and Energy Resources
    - Projection of future energy consumptions
    - Technology and Engineering Development in Offshore Oil/Gas Industry
    - Oil/Gas Related Offshore Engineering in Korean Shipbuilding Companies
    - LNG: projection of future LNG demand, floating terminals, LNG carrier fabrication and LNG carrier analyses.

  • Conventional Energy II:
    - Conservation of energy: waste heat recovery, renewable energy and new energy technologies. Development of the components constituting optimized thermal systems (experimental and/or theoretical studies)
    - New energy sources via direct energy conversion such as fuel cells, AMTEC and thermoelectric technologies
    - Renewable energies such as wind, solar, incinerator, geothermal

The deadline for submitting a paper abstract is March 15, 2006. Authors will be notified of their abstract's acceptance starting April 15. Full-length papers are due for review June 1, 2006.
