He received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at University of Illinois. He received the 1985 Dongbaek Medal the 2009 KSEA Oustanding Contribution Award.

He is an elected member of U.S. National Academies: Institute of Medicine and National Academy of Engineering and received numerous awards from AAPS, AACP, CRS, ISBP, Hoam and Utah Governor’s Medal of Science.
