The Professional Forum (PF) and Young Generation Forum (YGF) at the US-Korea Conference (UKC) are two forums under the Career and Leadership Track called the “Young Generation and Professional Forums (YG/PF).” Both will explore career and leadership development topics of interest to early to mid-career industry professionals, and graduate and undergraduate students. The PF and YGF programs will span 3 days during UKC from Thursday through Saturday, August 2-4, 2018 at St. John’s University in Queens, New York. More information on each forum is provided below.
The YG/PF will have a separate application from the UKC. However, you may attend any Young Generation and Professional Forums session during UKC to develop your soft skills and learn how to successfully navigate through your career.
The Professional Forum aims to provide career and leadership development to mid-career industry professionals, who generally have 10 or more years of experience. As we progress through our careers, there are many situations that we are faced but unsure of how to approach them:
- How do I make myself more noticeable within the company?
- How do I deal with colleagues whom I do not get along with?
- How do I have a difficult conversation?
- What do I do when I’m harassed at work?
- I want to settle down and that’s requiring more financial commitment
As such, the Professional Forum will explore different topics that are not readily discussed in the workplace and is aimed to provide guidance and skillset to mid-career industry professionals. Participants will share their leadership and/or career experiences through poster presentations or career speed talks. Lastly, participants to the Professional Forum will have immense opportunities to network with other professionals throughout UKC.
Young Generation Forum at UKC
The Young Generation Forum at UKC aims to provide career development and leadership training to next-generation students and early career professionals, who generally have less than 5 years of work experience. As they progress through the earliest stages of their academic/industry careers, students and early-career professionals are faced with important decisions to make and soft skills to develop.
- Should I go into academia or industry?
- Is it okay to pursue a career in a field completely outside of my area of study?
- How should I pay off for my loans?
- How does personal finance work?
The Young Generation Forum at UKC will include various workshops and speakers to facilitate the next-generation scientists and engineers transition from school to advanced degrees or careers by equipping them with insight and mentorships from experienced leaders.
The Young Generation Forum at UKC primarily focuses on undergraduate students, graduate students, professional students (medical, dental, pharmacy, etc.), recent graduates, and early career professionals. Participants to the YGF at UKC will share their leadership and/or career experiences through a poster presentation only.
