Forum Summary

The Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI) is a government funded research institute focusing on the analytical science using the national core experimental equipment and facilities. Now the KBSI has been leading the construction project of a new synchrotron facility in Korea. The synchrotron will store a 4 GeV, 400 mA electron beam in the 800 m circumference 4th generation storage ring (4GSR). The target emittance of the electron beam is smaller than 100 pm·rad, that will provide world-class high brilliance and coherent x-ray sources. The project, that aims to accomplish in 2027, is expected to open a new era of x-ray photon science in Korea. Besides, the USA has also advanced the upgrade programs of 4GSR (APS-U and ALS-U) and the facilities in the national laboratories lead the progress of x-ray experimental techniques. To improve the future science program of the Korea 4GSR, we would like to stimulate productive collaboration within Korea-USA research institutes and researchers. We are willing to introduce the project of Korea and share the perspectives of invited researchers from the USA facilities. We will also open a panel discussion with invited speakers and the other researchers. By the KBSI Forum, we would like to arouse interest on the next generation x-ray science using new synchrotron facilities including the Korea 4GSR.
