Redesign a unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for the Mars sample-return mission using TinkerCAD or any other 3D modeling platform.
Participants will freely create or redesign a UAV concept suitable for a Mars sample-return mission, rather than being restricted to a reference set. Designs must carefully account for the unique Martian environment, including thin atmosphere, low temperatures, dust storms, and reduced gravity. Designs should logically address specific challenges and constraints of Mars, and present innovative, creative solutions with clear engineering reasoning.
Open to all undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral participants attending UKC 2025.
Participants are encouraged to use TinkerCAD for ease of access, but any 3D design or modeling software is allowed (e.g., Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Onshape, CATIA, etc.).
Maximum 5-page PDF report (file size limit: 10 MB)
No specific font required, but please ensure clarity and professionalism.
Report must include:
o Snapshot(s) of the 3D model
o Design objectives
o Environmental and mission-specific considerations for Mars
o Rationale for design modifications or solutions to identified challenges
Submission Deadline: Sunday, July 20, 2025
Submit your PDF to: it@ksea.org
